Fillings-The Fix to Your Cavities

Composite Fillings Versus Metal Amalgam Fillings

Gone are the days of metal fillings. Our practice now provides fillings that are of white color to perfectly match your existing smile and keep your teeth looking natural. A dental filling, also known as a composite filling, is used to repair a tooth with minor decay or one that may have fractures or cracks. Often the patient may not know that they need a filling as the decay that has built up has not caused any pain or discomfort yet.

However, if a filling is not completed when prescribed, then often is the case that the patient may end up needing a crown and/or a root canal further in the future. A filling can be looked at as both the restoration of a tooth or teeth that need fixed, but also as a preventative method to also stop the tooth from having further issues causing larger health concerns and financial costs.

For a filling, we numb the area that the filling or fillings are being completed. The visit is relatively short and the patient should expect to be comfortable the next day. Fillings are done with composite, white looking material so that your friends and family will not be able to see that you had work done. Your teeth will look natural.

Composite material is a type of plastic material with small filler particle that not only match your tooth’s color but also provide the highest level of materials to last. Fillings are typically completed in one visit. When diagnosed, it is important to address the need for these fillings in order to prevent future issues such as crowns or root canals.
